Alberto Bacchiega

Director of the Digital Platforms Directorate – DG Comp European Commission

An industrial economist by training, Alberto Bacchiega joined the European Commission's Directorate General for Competition in 2000. He has held several positions enforcing State aid and merger control in the telecoms, financial, pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. He joined the senior management team of DG Competition in 2021 and, since January 2023, he has been leading the directorate 'Digital Platforms' in charge or regulating large digital platform through the implementation of the Digital Markets Act.
