Fabrizio Di Gianni was born in Naples on 9 June 1964 and obtained his school-leaving certificate in 1982 from the Liceo Umberto I in Naples. 

In 1987, he graduated with a degree in law, achieving a mark of 110/100 with honours, from the University of Naples Federico II, having written a thesis on international law. He then furthered his education with a first Master's degree in European Union law (Diploma of Advanced European Legal Studies) at the College of Europe in Bruges in 1989 and, in 1995, with a second Master's degree in international law at Georgetown University in Washington (LLM in Common Law Studies), which he completed with top marks and honours and was awarded the Chetwood Prize for outstanding academic achievement.

Admitted to the Naples Bar in 1991 and authorised to practise before the Court of Cassation since 2003, he began working with the law firm Van Bael & Bellis in Brussels in 1990, of which he has been a partner since 1999. His professional practice focuses primarily on European Union and international law, within which he represents major companies and multinationals in their dealings with EU institutions, and on WTO law, in which he assists governments and trade associations. He regularly appears before administrative authorities, including the European Commission and the Italian Competition Authority, as well as before the courts of the European Union and Italy.

In the academic and teaching sphere, he is co-author of the monographs Competition Law in the EC (Giappichelli, 1996 and 2009) and Trade Protection Laws of the EC (Kluwer, 2004 and 2019), and in 2025 and 2026 he published numerous articles in Il Sole 24 Ore and in specialist legal journals such as Geotrade. He currently teaches the EU Competition Law module on the Master's in European Studies at the Fondazione Collegio di Parma.
