Gianfrancesco Romeo

Director General – General Directorate for Consumers and Market – MIMIT

Gianfrancesco Romeo is Director-General for Consumers and the Market at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT) since 2023. The role involves responsibility for managing relations with the Competition and Market Authority, supporting the Price Surveillance Authority, liaising with the Insurance Supervisory Authority, as well as overseeing national technical standardisation bodies (UNI and CEI) and the Single Accreditation Body (ACCREDIA).

The Director-General is also responsible for policies, legislation and projects relating to consumers and legal metrology. 

He has been Director-General of the Directorate-General for Resources, Organisation, Information Systems and the Budget at MIMIT since June 2020, and prior to that, from September 2019, he was Head of the Legislative Office - Director's Collaboration Offices at the Ministry of Economic Development.

He was Head of the Legislative Sector of the Ministry for the South at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers from January to September 2019.

He served as Chairman of the Board of Auditors of Unioncamere from July 2010 to 2019.

He was Chairman of the Management Committee of the Guarantee Fund for Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers at CONSAP from 2008 to 2018. 

Since May 2023, he has been a full member of the Advisory Group for the Implementation of Guidelines for the Regulation of Public Utility Services (NARS).

He was a member of the Ecolabel-Ecoaudit Committee at the Ministry of the Environment (APAT/ISPRA) from December 2006 to July 2013.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Metrological Research in Turin (from January 2006 to August 2011).

He has been a senior manager at MIMIT since 2002, following the 2nd Executive Training Course and Competitive Examination at the School of Public Administration.

Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic since 2007.
